Or you'll brick yer Berry
1) You will NOT brand you BB to any carrier via an OS upgrade. That's just plain wrong info, carrier has nothing to do with the OS (the vendor.xml file only specifies the carrier that the particular OS is allowed to install on, but does nothing to identify the actual carrier on the device)
2) You need to make sure you use the CORRECT OS for your device. GSM (eg 8310, 8110) and CDMA devices (eg 8330, 8130) use DIFFERENT OS's
3) (most importantly) you will NOT brick your BB. Even with a failed OS upgrade, or worse yet, a wiped blackberry with NO OS WHATSOEVER, RIM was smart enough to include an OS loading stub in the devices ROM, and you can always put an OS on it. So if anything goes wrong during an upgrade, just makesure you have access to any official OS from your carrier and you can't go wrong.
Repeat, you will NOT brick your BB. It's impossible via an OS upgrade (although you can brick a GSM version trying to unlock it, but that's another topic).
Cheers,
