Blackberry Web Client (BWC) - Setup Guide

Setup a BlackBerry Web Client (BWC) account:
1. Open a browser on your personal computer.
2. Go to your service provider’s BlackBerry Internet Service website. Verify your service provider’s logo is visible in the top right corner.
3. Click Create New Account. The Account Set-up webpage appears.
4. Type your handheld personal identification number (PIN) and International Mobile Equipment Identity or electronic serial number (IMEI/ESN) in the appropriate fields. To locate the PIN, and IMEI or ESN on your handheld, click Options followed by Status.
5. Click Submit on the service provider’s website page.
6. Read the Legal Terms and Conditions click I Agree.
7. On the Account Set-up page, enter the following information:
- User ID
- Friendly Name
- Password
- Re-enter Password
- Secret Question
- Secret Answer
8. Click Done. Your BlackBerry account setup is now complete.

To set up your BlackBerry device to receive email, and to access your BlackBerry Internet Service website, select your wireless service provider below:

* Mobility
* Bell Mobility
* Cincinnati Bell
* Cingular Wireless
* Nextel
* Rogers Wireless
* TELUS Mobility
* T-Mobile
* Verizon Wireless

Blackberry Web Client (BWC) Mail Box Management
You can manage your BB mailbox using one or more of the following:
* Auto-aging
* Reconciling Wireless Email
* Using Reconcile Now
* Purging Deleted Items

Auto-aging
Auto-aging moves old messages to your 'Deleted Items' folder. Auto-aging can be set for individual folders.

1. On the Home Page, within the BlackBerry Web Client website of your service provider, click the Manage Folders button in the left pane. Items in the different folders are retained or purged to a schedule that you set.
2. Click one of these folders:
- Inbox
- Deleted Items
- Draft
- Sent Items
3. In the Auto Age section, put a check mark next to Auto Age items older than...
4. In the text box, type a number. For example, 30.
5. From the drop-down list, select Days, Weeks, or Months.
6. Click Save and Close. The option is saved. From now on, mail older than 30 days will be moved from the Inbox to the Deleted Items folder.

Reconciling Wireless Email
You can set whether email messages are deleted from the device only, or from both the device and the BlackBerry Internet Service mailbox during an email reconciliation.

The default for Wireless Email Reconciliation on your handheld is Disabled. Set Wireless Reconcile to Enabled.

1. From the main screen on your handheld, click Messages.
2. Click the trackwheel and click Options. The Messages Options window opens.
3. Click Email Reconciliation.

To set Delete On and Wireless Reconcile:
a. Click the Delete On or Wireless Reconcile option and click Change Option.
b. If setting Delete On: Click Mailbox & Handheld.
If setting Wireless Reconcile: Click On.
c. Click the trackwheel and click Save.

To set Wireless Delete Options in BlackBerry Internet Service website(Setting this option permanently deletes email messages when deleted from the handheld):
a. Log in to your BlackBerry Internet Service website.
b. On the Home Page, click Profile.
c. In the Wireless Delete Options, click permanent deletion.
d. Put a check mark next to Enable permanent deletion of messages on WebClient when messages are deleted from the handheld.
e. Click Save. The Permanent deletion of messages on WebClient when messages are deleted from handheld is now Enabled message appears at the top of the screen.

Using Reconcile Now
When messages are reconciled, any message that you file or delete on your handheld is also filed or deleted on your BlackBerry Internet Service mailbox, depending on how you set your message options.

If wireless email reconciliation is enabled on your handheld, you can reconcile email messages manually with Reconcile Now:

1. From the main screen on your handheld, click Messages. The Messages screen appears.
2. Click the trackwheel and click Reconcile Now.

Purging Deleted Items
Messages in your Deleted Items folder are calculated into the total mailbox size. Deleted messages are saved in the Deleted Items folder whitin your BlackBerry Internet Service mailbox. They are not permanently removed unless you do one of the following:

1. From the main screen on your handheld, click on the Messages Icon.
2. Click the trackwheel and select Options.
3. In the Message List Options screen, click the trackwheel and select Purge Deleted Items from the menu. All the email messages in the Deleted Items folder are permanently removed.

OR

1. Log in to your BlackBerry Internet Service website.
2. On the Home Page, click Empty Deleted Items.

All the email messages in the Deleted Items folder are permanently removed.



Integrating other email accounts with your BlackBerry

Your Blackberry Internet Service account (Web Client) can be integrated with up to ten Internet Service Provider (ISP) email accounts. BlackBerry supports most Post Office Protocol 3 (POP3) and Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) accounts including Microsoft MSN Hotmail Plus and Yahoo! Mail Plus.

Account Integration Requirements

Verify that your email account provider complies with the following account integration requirements:

* If using a POP server, it must be configured to use Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) port 995 or port 110.
* If using an IMAP server, it must be configured to use TCP port 143 or port 993.
* If the POP or IMAP server is located behind a firewall or proxy, the TCP port used must be configured to allow bi-directional Internet traffic.
* If using a POP server, it must support unique identification listing (UIDL). Please perform an Internet search for Request for Comments document RFC1939.

Integrate an Email Account

Complete the following steps:

1. Connect to the BlackBerry Internet Service website and log in to your BlackBerry account.
2. On the navigation bar, click Profile.
3. Under Email Accounts, click the hyperlink other email accounts.
4. Click Add Account.
5. Type the email address, user name, and password in the appropriate fields and click Submit.
6. If you see the message “Your email account has been successfully set up,” the integration is complete. The integrated account is listed with a green check mark in the Status column (on the far right). New email messages will begin appearing on the handheld from your integrated email account.

If you see the message “We were unable to configure this mailbox,” it is the result of one of the following:
* The integration failed because you entered the wrong account information. Repeat the process.
* The integration is not complete because you must enter additional information. Complete the steps in the following section.

Provide Additional Information

1. Under Internet Service Provider Email, select the option for I use an email client such as Outlook™, Outlook Express™, Netscape®, Eudora®.
2. Click Submit.
3. Type your email server name and port number.

For example, if you are integrating a POP account, type port number 110 or 995. If you are integrating an IMAP account, type port number 143 or 993.
4. Verify your email address, user name, and password.
5. Select one of the following options:
* Leave messages on mail server (default setting)
* Utilize SSL
6. Click Submit.

If you see the message “Your email account has been successfully set up,” the integration is complete. The integrated account is listed with a green check mark in the Status column (on the far right). New email messages will begin appearing on the handheld from your integrated POP or IMAP account.

If you see the message “We were unable to configure this mailbox,” the integration failed because:
* You entered the wrong account information. Repeat the process.
* There is a temporary connection problem between the BlackBerry Internet Service website and your email provider’s website. Try integrating your account later.

Blackberry Web Client (BIS) 'Profile' explained On the Profile page, you can modify your security settings, assign a Sent From Address to your account, and configure existing email accounts to forward mail to your handheld email account address.

Set a password
  1. On the menu bar, click Profile. The Profile page appears.
  2. In the Password section, click password. The Password page appears.
  3. In the Password field, type your current password.
  4. In the New Password field, type your new password.
  5. In the Re-enter New Password field, type your new password again.
  6. Click Save. The password is saved.
Your password must be 4 to 16 characters long.


Set a secret question
If you forget your password, you can answer your secret question on the BlackBerry login page. A new password is sent to your handheld.
  1. On the menu bar, click Profile. The Profile page appears.
  2. Click secret question and answer. The Secret Question and Answer page appears.
  3. Select one of the following options:
    • In the New Secret Question field, type a secret question.
    • From the drop-down list, select a secret question.
  • In the New Secret Answer field, type the answer to your question.
  • Click Save And Close. The secret question and answer are saved.Set a Sent From Address
    You can set the email address that appears in the From field of messages that you send. If you reply to messages from multiple email accounts, the replies will appear to be from the Sent From Address.
    1. On the menu bar, click Profile. The Profile page appears.
    2. Click Sent From Address.
    3. Select one of the following options:
      • To use your Send From Address as your default handheld email address, select I want my 'Sent From Address' to be my default handheld email address.
      • To use an email address for one of your integrated email accounts, select I want to customize my 'Sent From Address' to be the email address entered below.
      • To use another email address, in the Sent From Address field, type an email address.
  • Click Submit. The option is saved.Note: If you specify a Reply-to Address and a Sent From Address, the Sent From Address will appear in the From field of messages you send.

    Adding other email accounts

    Add an email account
    You can receive messages from multiple email accounts on your handheld.
    Depending on your service provider, this option might not be available.
    1. On the menu bar, click Profile.
    2. In the Email Accounts section, click other email accounts.
    3. Click Add Account. The Email Accounts page appears.
    4. In the following fields, type account information:
      • Email Address: Type the full email address for the account (for example, tanyamoser@ispname.com).
      • Your User ID/Login: Type your login ID (for example, tanyamoser).
      • Password: Type the password for your email account.
      • Re-enter Password: Confirm your password.
  • Click Submit. If the integration is successful, the updated Email Accounts page appears.
  • If the BlackBerry Internet Service is unable to make a connection with your email account using the information provided, the Unable to Configure this Mailbox page appears. Select the option that describes how you access the email account you are attempting to add:
    • I use an email account such as Outlook, Outlook Express, Netscape, Eudora.: Specifies the email client used to access email provided by your Internet Service Provider, such as Earthlink, Netzero, etc. The BlackBerry will automatically find the information and configure this account for you.
    • I can access my mailbox using a Web browser (Outlook Web Access): Specifies whether or not your email is retrieved using an Internet browser from a computer outside of your company's network (i.e. from your home).
    • I always use Microsoft Outlook to access my mailbox: Specifies whether or not your email is retrieved using Microsoft Outlook from a computer in your company's network.
    • I can access my mailbox using a Web browser (iNotes): Specifies whether or not you can retrieve your email using an Internet browser (i.e. from your home).
    • I always use Lotus Notes to access my mailbox: Specifies whether or not you can retrieve your email using Lotus Notes from a computer in your company's network.
  • If you select option 3 (Microsoft Outlook) or option 5 (Lotus Notes) above, you will be prompted to download the mail connector application. Click Download. The mail connector is installed. The mail connector allows you to receive your corporate email on your handheld.
    Add a Microsoft Outlook or Exchange email account

    If you are attempting to add a Microsoft Exchange email account, the Microsoft Exchange email account page appears.
    On the Email Accounts page, you are prompted with the following fields:
    • Outlook Web Access URL: Type the URL for web access to your Microsoft Outlook account.
    • Mailbox Name: Type the mailbox name for your Microsoft Outlook account.
    Click Submit. If the integration is successful, the updated Email Accounts page appears. The account is added.

    Add a Lotus Domino email account

    On the Email Accounts page, you are prompted with the following field:
    • iNotes URL: Type the URL for web access to your Lotus Notes account.
    Click Submit. If the integration is successful, the updated Email Accounts page appears. The account is added.

    Edit email account information

    You can modify an email account that you have previously added.
    1. On the menu bar, click Profile.
    2. In the Email Accounts section. Click other email accounts.
    3. Click an email account.
    4. Edit the account information.
    5. Click Submit. The edited account information is saved.

    Delete an email account

    You can cancel mail forwarding or polling by deleting the desired account from your list of integrated external email accounts.
    1. On the menu bar, click Profile.
    2. In the Email Accounts section, click other email accounts.
    3. Select a check box beside an email account.
    4. Click Delete. The Requesting Permanent Deletion page appears.
    5. Click Yes. The email account is deleted fromt the list.
    Enable or disable auto BCC
    You can forward a copy of each message that you send from your BlackBerry Wireless Handheld or desktop to another email address. This feature enables you to save sent messages without having to use your BlackBerry account space.
    1. On the menu bar, click Profile.
    2. In the Auto BCC section, click Send a copy of messages.
    3. Select one of the following options:
      • To enable auto BCC, select the check box. In the text box, type an email address.
      • To disable auto BCC, clear the check box.
  • Click Save. Auto BCC is enabled or disabled.Switch to a new handheld
    1. On the menu bar, click Profile. The Profile page appears.
    2. In the Change Handheld section, click handheld.
    3. Type the PIN number for the new handheld.
    4. Type the ESN/IMEI number for the new handheld.
    Note: To find your PIN and ESN/IMEI numbers, Read Here.
    1. Click Submit.
    Reactivate your account
    If you have received a replacement BlackBerry handheld or if you think your BlackBerry handheld is not functioning properly, you can reactivate your account. When you reactivate your handheld email account, your service book is resent to your handheld.
    1. On the menu bar, click Profile. The Profile page appears.
    2. In the BlackBerry Internet Service Service Book section, click Send Service Book. The service book is sent.
