Well it allows you to take advantage of higher browsing speeds if your device isn't 3G capable, allows you to make calls if you have a uma compatible phone, or even network based streaming services and such.

Wifi equals life. When i go to my friends house, we're usually in his basement, and i get no service down there. But when i connect to his wifi i can text, browse, and call people.

WIFI allows you to use your home internet to browse and it does not take away from your DATA package, well at least not from places in Canada i am not sure any other country, but here in canada good ol wireless providers can't track your WIFI.

You still need a data plan to have WIFI work.

Also you cna use WIFI to use UMA service = Voip calling on UMA phones..... the BOLD is not a UMA designed phone although on certain carriers it is ... so in Canada it is not.

Now that being said UMA phones are like the 8900 and so forth ... i suggest you check into that for your phone.

So benefits of WIFI:

= No taking from your data plan in most places (check your provider to confirm)
= Faster browsing experience as oppsed to EDGE or even at times 3G.
= Faster downloading depends on your internet speed you pay for, i get up to 700kb/s on my BBold on my 15mb home internet service WIFI.
