While upgrading from a previously installed version of Desktop Manager, the following error appears in InstallShield: Error 1316.

Cause

InstallShield is using the installation files from the previous version of Desktop Manager.

Resolution 1

Uninstall the previous version of the Desktop Manager and install the new version. You can uninstall the previous version with either Add/Remove Programs or the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility.
Note: Try Add/Remove Programs first. If the Desktop Manager does not appear in the Add/Remove Programs list or if the program does not uninstall properly, try the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility.
To uninstall Desktop Manager with Add/Remove Programs
  1. Close BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
  2. Open the Control Panel and double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  3. Select BlackBerry Desktop Software and click Change/Remove.
  4. In the InstallShield Wizard window, click Remove and Next.
  5. In the Confirm Uninstall window, click OK.
  6. In the InstallShield Wizard window, click Finish.
To uninstall Desktop Manager with the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility
  1. Download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility from the Microsoft Help and Support site.
  2. Install the utility on the personal computer.
  3. Run the utility.
  4. Find and select the previous installation of Desktop Manager in the list of programs.
  5. Click Clear.

Resolution 2

Rename the InstallShield folder, and reinstall Desktop Manager.
  1. Go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\
  2. Right-click the InstallShield folder and select Rename.
  3. Rename the folder InstallShield_old.
  4. Install Desktop Manager.
